ABOUT the 0161 project
WE ARE THE 0161 PROJECT
The 0161 Project is a community-rooted alternative provision born in Collyhurst & Moston club, but now supporting young people all around Greater Manchester, built around one powerful belief:
Every young person deserves structure, support and a real opportunity to succeed.
We work with young people who may be struggling in mainstream education, experiencing anxiety or low confidence, at risk of exclusion, or navigating social, emotional and mental health challenges.
Our aim is simple - to provide a safe, nurturing environment where young people can rebuild confidence, develop discipline and find direction.
-
We support young people who:
Are at risk of permanent exclusion
Have SEMH needs
Struggle with anxiety or social confidence
Require alternative provision
Need structured mentoring
Benefit from practical, movement-led engagement
We work closely with schools, local authorities and referring bodies to ensure each learner receives appropriate support.
-
At the heart of The 0161 Project is boxing.
Not simply as a sport — but as a structured framework for personal development.
Boxing teaches:
Discipline
Accountability
Emotional regulation
Respect
Goal setting
Resilience
Through structured sessions, clear expectations and consistent mentoring, we help young people build confidence and positive identity.
Our environment is firm but supportive. Structured but encouraging. Focused on progress - not punishment.
-
To redefine education for young people who need an alternative pathway. We exist to:
Reduce exclusion
Improve engagement
Build employability skills
Create progression routes into vocational training and employment
Support long-term personal development
